![]() Gagliana Grossa (originally Moceniga Lezza & Basadona) — Italian merchant ship The wreck was discovered in the early 1960s, and subsequent excavations recovered over 10,000 artifacts from the Renaissance era. In 1571, the ship was seized by the Ottomans during the Cyprus War and remained under Ottoman control until 1581, when it was sold to a merchant in Constantinople. LAUNCHED: 1569 → FATE: Sank in a storm in 1583 near the coast of Croatia. |
